       Bark Beetle Lures

Bark Beetle Tree Baitsare used to lure specific bark beetles to individual trees.  Baits contain and concentrate beetles within current infestation boundaries. Baiting should only occur where tree removal is anticipated.

Choose from our alphabetical list of Bark Beetle Tree Baits

Bark Beetle Tree Baits: Douglas- fir Beetle

Douglas-fir Beetle(Dendroctonus pseudotsugae)

Highest quality frontalin is the key to this amazingly effective tree bait. Tree bait placement: Grid bait: 1 bait/50 m (50 yd.). Spot bait: 2 baits/spot (minimum). Bait Douglas-fir log bundles at landings to clean up attacking beetles.

Bark Beetle Tree Baits: Mountain Pine Beetle

Mountain Pine Beetle
(Dendroctonus ponderosae)

North America's most used tree bait; effective in containing attacks in stands of susceptible western pines i.e. lodgepole, ponderosa, limber. Tree bait placement: Grid bait 1 bait/50 m (50 yd.). Spot bait 2 baits/spot (minimum). Designed for late winter (snowmobile) installation.

Bark Beetle Tree Baits: Spruce Beetle

Spruce Beetle
(Dendroctonus rufipennis)

This two-component tree bait is specially designed for use in trap-tree programs. The bait is particularly useful where heavy snowfall can preclude conventional trap-tree programs. Tree bait placement: Grid bait 1 tree bait/50 m (50 yd.). Spot bait 2 tree baits/spot (minimum).

Bark Beetle Tree Baits: Western Balsam Bark Beetle

Western Balsam Bark Beetle
(Dryoecetes confusus)

This bait is placed in clusters of 2-3 baits at a density of 2-5 clusters/hectare (2-3 clusters / acre). Use this cluster method for spot or grid baiting.

Pine Stand

Western Pine Beetle
(Dendroctonus brevicomis)

Use of this three-component bait is strictly experimental and should only be considered after consultation with research entomologists. Reckless use can cause unwanted infestations.
